Queer Shreds: with Arapeta Hākura, Alex Monteith and Rainbow Youth

Members of the Rainbow community are invited to join artists and surfers Arapeta Hākura (Whanaunga, Ruanui, Mahuta, Koata, Te Wehi, Kahu, Te Rarawa, Te Aupouri, Ngāpuhi, Porou, English, Scottish and Croatian) and Alex Monteith, alongside Rainbow Youth, for a Queer Surf Day on Fitzroy beach. Within a safe and supportive space, this is an opportunity to meet peers, build community and explore queer connections to te moana.
No knowledge of or skill in surfing is required. Boards available for those who don’t already have one.
This event is free, though spaces are limited.
If conditions are unsafe on this date, a postponement date will be advised to registered attendees.
This event is staged ahead of Arapeta’s upcoming Open Window exhibition at the Govett-Brewster, scheduled for mid-2024.
