Candice Lin: Pigs and Poison
Candice Lin: Pigs and Poison
Pigs and Poison by acclaimed Los Angeles-based artist Candice Lin debuted at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in August 2020.
Deeply entrenched in marginalised histories, colonial legacies and the materials that link them, the subject matter explores the ways in which racialised language – around such seemingly innocuous items as plants and their use – further extended colonial control.
As the Gallery’s first new contemporary exhibition following the initial Covid-19 lockdowns, it also found a resonant audience on the themes of plague and virus.
The exhibition catalogue delves into all of these topics, and explores the histories behind the work through essays and two conversations with the artist.
Published by the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in partnership with Guangdong Times Museum (Guangdon, China) and Spike Island (Bristol, UK), this publication captures the exhibition in all its touring iterations. ISBN: 978-8-86749-558-0
