Monica Brewster Evening June: Andreas Mikellis

Andreas is a fashion designer, maker and educator. He started his career in the UK, establishing an international fashion label, followed by designing for major brands in Europe, Australia and Aotearoa. Andreas has designed for musicians, TV and film, collaborated on creative projects with designers and artists, and as a costume designer for contemporary dance companies, including a significant body of work for The New Zealand Dance Company. He was invited onto the team of the Warner Brothers/TV2 series Project Runway New Zealand as a presenter and mentor.

During his career his design philosophy has always been focused on the intrinsic value of how things are made. His latest project is Skrimshand, a slow fashion experiment that celebrates the art of garment making.

Andreas holds a Master of Philosophy in design practice and is a senior lecturer in Fashion & Textiles at AUT University.
