Monica Brewster Evenings is a monthly event series with thinkers, makers, enablers and practitioners from across the creative sector.

Join us for August's Monica Brewster Evening with Tavia Nyong’o, the William Lampson Professor of American Studies at Yale.

Tavia Nyong’o is a 2024 Guggenheim fellow for his current project, The Racial Reckoning in Art and Performance. He is William Lampson Professor of American Studies at Yale University on Quinnipiac territory with emphases in African-American Studies, Theater & Performance Studies, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

He curates the public program at the Park Avenue Armory on Manhattan island, Lenapehoking, and his next book — Black Apocalypse: Afrofuturism and the Ends of the World, is forthcoming from the University of California Press in 2025.

His presentations in Aotearoa will consider the intersections and adjacencies of black and blak placemaking practices with a particular emphasis on queer kinship and ancestor reverence.

Tavia Nyong’o is a Creative New Zealand visual Te Manu Ka Tau International delegate. This kaupapa is delivered in association with Artspace Aotearoa, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
