Drifters is an outcome of Saskia Leek's Artist in Residence Programme and subsequent exhibition at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in 2005.
The series Drifters continues Saskia's exploration of established notions of painting via a practice that incorporates subjects from her everyday surroundings. The paintings include images Saskia found around New Plymouth and Taranaki, often in amateur art works or dated prints from second-hand shops, images that for Saskia evoke a sense of either oddness or loss of meaning due to loss of context.
